For sure the messaging app, WhatsApp is the top and most used messaging apps across the world. Also, every now and then, the company comes up with unbelievable features and stuns the users. This time, a brand new feature is out for the users in India as it the largest market with over 200 million users.
This is nothing but a feature that allows the users to send and receive money through the app. Yes, you heard us! It has started testing out its UPI based payments feature in India. Interesting, right ?!
This could give a humongous boost to the digital payments mode considering the popularity of the usage of the WhatsApp in India.
Note that the all new feature is available for the select WhatsApp beta users on the platforms – iOS and Android. This payments features will help the WhatsApp users to send and receive money using the India government’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Also, note that the new feature is available on WhatsApp version 2.18.21 for iOS and for Android – 2.18.41.
Whatsapp UPI Payments : Now Send / Receive Money Through WhatsaApp
The user can access the same in a chat window through the Attachment menu. It will be seen alongside the other options – Documents, Gallery, Video and others. Just give a click on the option – Payments.
Here you will see a disclaimer window and followed by a list of banks. Just pick the bank from the list of obtained results.
The feature support the banks – Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICIC Bank, State Bank of India, Yes Bank Ltd, Airtel Payments Bank, Allahabad Bank, Allahabad UP Gramin Bank, Andhra Bank, Andhra Pradesh Grammena Vikas Bank, Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank, Apna Sahakari Bank Ltd, Bank of Baroda and others.
Now, select the bank as per your requirement to connect with the UPI.
Just verify your phone number through SMS and choosing a bank.
Then you will be asked to create an authentication pin. This happens when you haven’t used the UPI payments platform. Also, the user should create a UPI account through the UPI app. Or else one can do the same with his / her respective website or app of the bank.
Remember that both the users should have the WhatsApp Payments feature to send and receive the money.
Note : There are certain issues with the linking process of the bank accounts to the app as it is in beta version. This may be ironed out when the company rolls out the same to all the users.
